This colorful and vivid map shows the endangerment of African wild animals. She appeared in December 1990 and accompanied three articles including "A Gathering of Waters and Wildlife." At the beginning of the 1970s there were about 70,000 black rhinoceroses in Africa, and in the late 1980s it was only about 3,000. This is just one example of the extinction and the strong threat of African wildlife. The map shows, in addition to a detailed picture of the continent, many endangered animal species, for example the mountain gorilla, the African elephant, the black rhino or the Geometric tortoise. Furthermore, the present and the earlier range of the individual animals are shown. The species which are particularly vulnerable in Madagascar are also listed. Simple symbols for mammals, reptiles, birds and amphibians make the map very clear.
